General information

Kåkenhus was built when Norrköping developed as an industrial city around the turn of the century, first for the Bergsbro textile factory and later for the textile group YFA. The house was taken over by Akademiska Hus during the 90s and an extensive renovation started. The house was converted into a university building for Linköping University.

The renovation focused on preserving the building's cultural-historical values and meeting the future's demands for sustainability through smart solutions.

The house is located by the stream in Norrköping and in the house's basement the hydroelectric plant still stands, which supplied the factory with electricity for many years.
